窓の外では、冬の厳しさ越えて、草木が瑞々しく芽吹き始めている。命の本質は、逆境や抑圧を乗り越えた先に、光り輝くものであるように思う。私たちの今日の礎となる偉大な数学の発見の背景にも、生々しい衝突のエピソードがあったり、よく馴染みのある音楽が、ピアニストの愛憎や苦楽から生まれたものだったりもする。私たちは、苔むす古刹の佇みに悠久を感じ、腕や首が欠損したヴィーナスや神仏の像に、むしろ深い神秘を感じることさえできる。その一方で、多様性の本質や在り方を模索し始めた今日でも、様々な分断や対立を埋める答えは、まだ容易には見つかっていない。私たちは、ありとあらゆる葛藤と向き合い苛まれ、自身の至らなさや愚かさを省みては抗い、敗北を味わい、それでも辿り着けない向こう側への、無意味にも思える挑戦を続ける。この気が遠くなるほどの滑稽な積み重ねの中で、それでも歩みを止めないのは、入り口も出口も無い超絶された窓の先にこそ、未だ見ぬ景色があることを、私たちの本質が、きっと知っているからだ。
